Each of the two middle school homeroom classes has two teachers who serve as advisors and up to sixteen students. The students are grouped according to level and needs in reading and math, and are grouped heterogeneously for science, social studies, and study skills. Reading groups are limited to six students and other classes tend to have fewer than ten students.
Most high schools require that students keep track of their assignments and monitor their work. Instead of simply holding students accountable for their ability to perform these tasks, the program teaches students how to be accountable. Depending on a student’s needs, there are varying levels of supports and instruction available.
